Why I Built Redown
Redown is an online utility built to make saving videos and other public media from RedNote (Xiaohongshu) simple, fast, and accessible.
I created Redown as an independent web developer for people who want a straightforward way to download public RedNote videos without dealing with complicated software, unnecessary sign-ups, deceptive pop-ups, or installing third-party apps.
Xiaohongshu (known globally as RedNote) is one of the most creative platforms for lifestyle guides, travel inspiration, fashion trends, food recipes, and design tutorials. However, saving clips for personal offline reference, study, or creative research often leads to frustration. Most third-party tools are cluttered with intrusive advertisements, slow conversion queues, and suspicious redirects. Redown was engineered to be the direct antidote: an ultra-fast, privacy-respecting, zero-bloat utility that works instantly in any modern web browser.
What Redown Does
Redown lets you paste a supported RedNote or Xiaohongshu post link and download the available media directly from that post. Depending on the original content and what the source CDN provides, Redown supports:
- Original high-definition video clips with smooth playback.
- Clean video streams without floating watermarks whenever an unwatermarked source is available from the network.
- Full quality and resolutions (including HD and 4K) provided by the original Xiaohongshu post.
- Single photos as well as multi-picture image carousels and albums.
- Original video cover images and thumbnail stills.
- Clean audio track extraction in MP3 format for offline listening.

Simple by Design
I believe a downloader should be easy to understand and get straight to the point:
- Copy a public RedNote post link from the Xiaohongshu app or website.
- Paste it into the input box on redown.cc.
- Choose your preferred download format and save the media instantly.
There is no need to learn complicated settings or use heavy desktop software for everyday downloads. Redown is engineered to run seamlessly directly in your browser on phones (including iOS Safari Camera Roll and Android Chrome), tablets, and desktop computers.
